Gholdengo becomes a valuable asset to revenge kill threats like Gengar and Noivern with Choice Scarf or a devastating wallbreaker that can bust through even the metagame's toughest special walls, such as Ting-Lu and Garganacl, with Choice Specs. Focus Blast hits Dark-types such as Kingambit, Roaring Moon, and Chi-Yu hard while preserving Make It Rain's PP. Trick allows Gholdengo to neutralize the few Pokemon that can stomach its attacks, particularly Vessel of Ruin Clodsire and Corviknight. Recover and Nasty Plot are viable alternatives to Focus Blast on Choice Scarf Gholdengo to increase its longevity and wallbreaking prowess, respectively. Levitate allows Choice Scarf Gholdengo to come in on Clodsire's and Great Tusk's Earthquake and makes it immune to Spikes, while Bulletproof lets it switch into opposing Shadow Ball Gholdengo and Gengar. Choice Specs Gholdengo prefers Beads of Ruin, which increases its wallbreaking power tremendously. Gholdengo appreciates pivots such as Corviknight, Noivern, and Roaring Moon that can bring it into battle safely. Hazard setters such as Garchomp, Ting-Lu, and Great Tusk can put pressure on Gholdengo's switchins, such as Clodsire and Assault Vest Roaring Moon. Cleaners such as Chien-Pao and Houndstone can take advantage of Choice Specs Gholdengo's early-game wallbreaking to pick off weakened teams; the latter especially appreciates Gholdengo putting immense pressure on its Dark-type checks. On the other hand, slow attackers such as Great Tusk and Slither Wing benefit from Choice Scarf Gholdengo forcing out their faster checks, such as Noivern.
